We’ve been really bad on updating our blog, we really want to blame on the slow Internet speed, but no, we’ve been lazy. But come on the heat of this continent (South East Asia) is something to really write about! The good news is that we are here finally making our Fiji part 2 blog entry! Ah Fiji…why are you so expensive! Most tourist go to Fiji for the island experience, you know, you have seen the post cards right? Beaches with palm trees on crystal clear turquoise water, your own piece of paradise, sipping cocktails…Yes! In order to experience that first you will need to get off the main island. You see that Fiji Island on map? That’s not where you will find paradise, you first will need to fly into Nadi, and from there you will have to take a boat to go to the “islands”. It is very easy, since this company has all laid out for you. It is pretty much the only option if you want to have the island experience. There are many options to choose from, the romantic gate-a-way, the party island (Beachcomber), the nothing to do island, etc… We obviously chose the one that had the least $ sign, and that was Mana Island. And we are glad we got here, the thing that makes this island amazing is the people. Every afternoon we went to chill with the “boys”, who religiously at 6:00 PM made fresh kava everyday. There is a huge amount of literature regarding kava, but summarizing it makes you “relax”. It has an earthy taste, a mix of dirt and milk. It definitely makes you tongue a little numb, but nothing that makes you hallucinate. First it was a little hard getting used to not doing anything, but after few hours, you do sink in into what they call “Fiji time”. We spent most of our afternoons just watching the sunset and detoxing from all the weddings we did last year. It never felt so good to be “not busy”. No pressure to get likes, no pressure to post the next wedding. It was just us, and the beginning of a journey.
